Ernie Shishido
Ernie Shishido is a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt who has personally facilitated more than 350 performance improvement events totaling over $500M in validated savings. He is certified by the University of Tennessee’s Center for Executive Education with consulting experience for the Department of Defense, Director of Performance Improvement at Asante Health System in Medford, Oregon, the Executive Director of Operational Excellence at Community Medical Center in Missoula, Montana, and most recently as Continuous Healthcare Transformation Partner for Providence Healthcare System in Renton, Washington. He is a proud veteran serving 30 years of uniformed military service who established and coordinated the Air Force’s business transformation efforts for over 700,000 members. Ernie is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Business Administration from the National Graduate School of Quality Management with a specialization in Health Systems.
Karen Shishido
Karen Shishido, RN BSN has a combined 30 years’ experience in direct patient care and Performance Improvement. She is Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt trained by Purdue University’s Healthcare Advising program. Nursing experience includes Ortho/Neuro as a direct care giver and charge nurse for over 12 years, Clinical Education, registry database management (ACC Cath/PCI, ACC ICD, STS Adult Cardiac, ACC/STS TAVR, ACC ACTION, Carotid Stent, NSQIP), along with medical staff audits for credentialing/accreditation.
Karen has consulted with multiple healthcare systems to bring Highly Reliable Care (HRC) by putting a “face on harm.” These activities include reviewing hospital acquired conditions, patient safety indicators, readmissions, and mortalities. Karen’s core strength is in physician engagement. Her collaborative abilities with providers have created the backbone of the strongest clinical quality program that has led to a healthcare system earning of the Truven Analytics 15 Top Health Systems Award 4 years in a row. Karen has been published in the American Journal of Cardiology (AJC), Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA), National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP), Curriculum in Cardiology, and The LA Times. Karen is intensely persistent in creating and cultivating clinical culture that adheres to the highest quality care and outcomes by putting the patient first in leveraging the power of clinical intelligence data.
